Through rapid but carefully planned development, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina has gained the positive attributes of city life, while carefully preserving its rich heritage and small town appeal. Located just across the magnificent Arthur Ravenel Bridge from Historic Charleston, Mount Pleasant residents love the easy access to the beautiful Lowcountry.

The recently constructed bridge completed in 2006 offers a magnificent connection from the old world charm of historic downtown Charleston to the modern suburb of Mount Pleasant. At the foot of the bridge lies Patriot's Point, a naval and maritime museum, home of the USS Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier, which is now a museum ship. Mount Pleasant features one of the oldest working plantations, Boone Hall Plantation, which has produced crops for over 320 years. The West African art of Sweetgrass basket-making is a tradition of Mount Pleasant locals that has been passed on from generation to generation for more than 300 years. This makes it one of the oldest art forms of African origin in the United States. Mount Pleasant also has some of the best golf courses in the country, including Patriot's Point with spectacular views of the Charleston Harbor, The Rees Jones course at Charleston National, The Dunes West Golf Club on the historic Lexington Plantation, and the new Arnold Palmer designed course at The Rivertowne Country Club. In addition, two courses in Wild Dunes Resort on near-by Isle of Palms and a number of private golf clubs in the area attract numerous golfers year round. Other Mount Pleasant attractions include Palmetto Islands County Park, featuring a water park with slides, paddle boats, and fishing docks; Shem Creek renowned for its award winning restaurants that line the creek; boat trips to historical Fort Sumter; and the Mount Pleasant Farmer's Market open each Tuesday from April - October featuring locally grown fruits and vegetables.
